Child and Adolescent Counselling
Parent involvement depends on the child’s age, needs and therapeutic goals.
For younger children, parents or carers are often involved so they can support progress and use helpful strategies at home. For adolescents, confidentiality is important, while still maintaining appropriate communication with parents or carers where needed.
Progress in counselling can look different for every child.
Some children may become better at expressing feelings, managing emotions, building confidence or using healthier coping strategies. Others may show gradual improvements in behaviour, social interactions or overall wellbeing.
Counselling provides a safe and supportive environment where children and adolescents can explore concerns and develop practical strategies.
The number of sessions depends on the nature and complexity of the concerns.
Some children benefit from short-term counselling focused on a specific issue. Others may need longer-term support for ongoing emotional, behavioural or social difficulties. The psychologist or counsellor will discuss progress and recommendations with the family as therapy continues.
