ABA – Applied Behaviour Analysis
Applied Behaviour Analysis Program (ABA)
ABA is the applied use of proven behavioural principles with the goal of either increasing or decreasing targeted behaviours with children with behavioural, learning challenges or autistic characteristics.
The ABA program provides a method for therapists to scientifically measure an individual’s behaviours and isolate their causes. Once a clear picture of the individual’s behaviour has been gained, the therapist is able to create a program that improves the behaviours over time, subject to continuous measurement and refinement. A large body of research supports the efficacy of ABA to significantly improve IQ and socially meaningful behaviour.
The ABA program is the only treatment for ASD given the highest status of “Effective Based on Established Research Evidence” in Australia. In the USA, ABA is the primary treatment for autism spectrum disorder.
